Principal Investigator
Melanie Nicol, PharmD, PhD
Dr. Nicol is a clinical pharmacologist. She received her PharmD degree from Ohio Northern University. During pharmacy school, she developed a love for translational science which led her to pursue a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
She joined the faculty of University of Minnesota in the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology in 2014.

Lindsey Collins, MS
Lindsey joined the Nicol lab in 2015. Lindsey’s research is focused on the development and application of ex vivo tissue models to evaluate efficacy of antiretrovirals for HIV prevention. Lindsey is also the lab manager and oversees daily operational and administrative activities.

Alyssa Lantz
Alyssa is a graduate student in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology. She joined the Nicol lab in the Fall of 2019. Alyssa is working on applying novel experimental models to understand the role of inflammation and the vaginal microbiome in PrEP efficacy.

Fan Wang, PhD Class of 2023
Fan Wang was a graduate student in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology from 2018-2023. Her research project was involved in applying clinical pharmacology to understand antiretroviral distribution in brain and genital tissue. Fan is currently employed at Abbvie Pharmaceuticals.
Tory Anderson, BS with honors, Class of 2022
Tory was in the honors program at the University of Minnesota. Her honors thesis project involving genital and plasma tenofovir concentrations in pre- and post-menopausal women.
Katelyn Pastick, MD Class of 2021
From 2015 to 2021, Katelyn Worked on Dr. Nicol's post-mortem projects in Uganda to characterize drug distribution in CNS tissues.
Joseph Corbino, PharmD Class of 2020
Joe was in the Nicol lab from 2017 to 2020 and was in the ECP Research Emphasis Track. In addition to assisting with data management for clinical studies, Joe’s lab research was focused on protein expression methods to characterize HIV target cells and drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters in cervicovaginal tissues.
An Le, PharmD Class of 2020
An was in the Nicol lab from 2017 to 2020 and was in the ECP Research Emphasis Track. An’s research project was investigating the role of MRP4 inhibition in the use of tenofovir for HIV prevention in women.
Prosperity Eneh, PharmD
Prosperity was a fellow in the lab from 2018 to 2019. Her research was related to the use of medications in resource limited settings and in understanding the role of pharmacists in health systems in different countries.
Huiyu Li, B.S. Class of 2017
Mona was an undergraduate researcher in the Nicol lab from 2016-2017. Her project examined the role of inflammation on drug metabolism and transport in cervical tissues.
